One of our most important projects in 1999 was
held in Pristina, capital of Kosovo. After NATO-Yugoslavia war,
all the communication equipment was destroyed. International Rescue
Commitee, together with MikroTikls and Interpacket Group,
started this project in August 1999. Interpacket installed 4Mb/s
satellite dish (see the picture below), which ensures Internet connection
between Pristina and the rest of the World.
|
|
| |
Locally all Pristina was joined in a large network
by using MikroTik Wireless Routers and Base Units. At this
moment, February 2000, there are already 75
Client sites connected to 4 Base Units. MikroTik specialists
managed the initial installation procedure on September 1-9. On
the picture above- John Tully and Janis Jankovskis at the very first
Base Unit in Pristina since war. This project proved MikroTik
equipment as ideal for fast and safe setup of Wireless Network after
emergencies.

The installation of radio link in Smiltene took
place in October 1999. The Smiltene Gymnasium was our customer.
The link was supposed to connect two LANs, one
of them was connected to the Internet. Point-to-Point link was impossible
because there were no straight view between the objects, so we used
the repeater site to connect those two LANs.
The repeater (Aironet Bridge with the omnidirectional
antenna) was installed on the Baltcom GSM-tower. The Radio link
is using 2.4 GHz frequency so it won't bother mobile connections.
The MikroTik Router and Parabolic Antenna
were installed in both offices of the Smiltene Gymnasium. The main
router was connected to the leased line. MikroTikls specialists
performed installation and configuration of the system during only
one day.
Now more clients are using the repeater site. The
repeater site transformed into public radio access point of Smiltene.
